Alexandra Yan Wong
Materiality underpins Alexandra Yan Wong’s (b. 1993) practice, which emerges from her interest in understanding how aesthetics is perceived and experienced in the modern world. With a background in literature and philosophy, Wong has transitioned from working with the written word to using materials as a form of language. Rooted in process-based experimentation, her work dances on the fine line that separates intention and accident, allowing spatial arrangement and concealment to elevate materials from mere medium to the very subject of the work. In her first time working with clay, Wong integrates the London construction material with her primary medium of paper; both retaining marks of their origins but now part of a new collective memory formed.
